Youth Mission Projects

Feeding the 5000

This mission is where the adults and youth in the St. Mark’s UMC Youth Group will work with the community to gather funds and 5000 non-perishable food items.  The youth will distribute these donations to those in the community who have the greatest need.  To top off this mission event, the youth hold a lock-in during the month of October.  During this time the participants fast for roughly 30 hours and sleep outside to experience what it is like to be hungry and homeless. The last Feed the 5000 brought in 6119 non-perishable food items! To culmonate the competition, the youth held a lock-in where they slept in cardboard houses and fasted for 30 hours to replicate the feeling of being homeless and hungry. They held a scavenger hunt and went shopping for groceries at 1:00 a.m.! Funds from a church yard sale and car wash went to buy the food items. Way to go youth!

 $2145 – Yard Sale

$575.00 – Car Wash

Meetings to plan the next Feed the 5000 will be held over the summer on July 11 and August 1st from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dinner will not be provided. Youth and parents are welcome to attend and plan out how to raise even more food for the needy in our community.
