Music

The greatest goal of all our Music Ministries at St. Mark’s is to praise and glorify God through music. Our second greatest goal is to encourage everyone around us to praise and glorify God.

We have many opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in the Music Ministry at St. Marks.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is open to all adults, no audition necessary. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings, 7:00-8:30pm during the school year. We sing regularly at the 11:00am service and occasionally at the 8:30am worship services, as well as other special services throughout the year. If you enjoy singing, this is the group for you!

During the summer months, the Chancel Choir takes an“organized” vacation – but many of the choir members still sing in our Summer Choir. When we meet, we only practice the music for the upcoming Sunday. This is a great place to check out the Choir on a week to week basis.

Please check the church calendar for current dates and times for Choir rehearsals.

Handbells Ensembles

St. Mark’s has over 5 octaves of English Handbells and Chimes. The Bell Ensemble rehearse for six week periods throughout the school year, with occasional extra technique “clinics.” We play in worship about every 6 to 10 weeks.

Because of the nature of any handbell ensemble, there is a greater commitment to attending rehearsals during each six week period.

We also offer beginning bell sessions for anyone interested in learning to ring.

Please check the church calendar for current dates and times for Bell Ensemble rehearsals, clinics, and beginning bell sessions.

Covenant Choir

The Covenant Choir is for children in 2nd through 5th grade, and meets Sundays, 4:45-5:45pm  throughout the school year. They sing several times in worship throughout the year. Covenant Choir is led by Coleen Zavatson and Dottie Arold.

Please check the church calendar for current dates and times for the Covenant Choir rehearsals.

Cherub Choir

The Cherub Choir is for children age 4 through 1st grade, and meets Sundays, 4:45-5:45pm  throughout the school year. They sing several times in worship throughout the year. The Cherub Choir is led by Peg Ramsdell.

Please check the church calendar for current dates and times for the Cherub Choir rehearsals.

Instrumental

At St. Mark’s, we are always looking for opportunities to incorporate instruments into our worship services. If you are interested in playing – as a soloist, as accompaniment, or in an ensemble with other instruments, please talk to the Director of Music Ministries, Julie Gibson.

If you think you would like to participate in any of the Music Ministries offered at St. Mark’s, but you are just not sure if you would fit in, talk to Julie Gibson, Director of Music Ministries. She would love to find the perfect place for you. Julie can be reached by email at julieg@stmarksraleigh.org or by phone at 919-787-0544 x15.
