Opportunities Outside Raleigh

Safe Space, Louisburg, NC:

Court advocates provide assistance in filing for protective orders, information about the court system and court process, and emotional support to victims of domestic violence as they pursue civil and criminal remedies to domestic violence.

Safe Space also provides a 24-hour emergency shelter for battered women and their children.

Participation may include financial donations, donating new or used cell phones, and volunteering to assist in their thrift shop.

Second Spring:

This is a relief effort to assist in rebuilding homes along the Mississippi coast in the D’Iberville, MS area. Teams from the Raleigh District go to D’Iberville nearly every week.

M.E.R.C.I. Center:

This agency houses materials for and provides training to those who are doing relief work. Volunteer teams are needed at the M.E.R.C.I. Warehouse in Goldsboro, NC.

Teams collect, sort and pack response kits, organize inventory to prepare for immediate response, become trained to better respond to emergency situations and commit to join a team to serve in the most awesome ministry of caring.

Appalachian Service Project:

This youth project provides assistance to those in rural areas in the Appalachians. Duties include construction, communion, and friendship for and to those less fortunate than ourselves. Youth who have completed 8th grade and adult volunteers are invited to join this wonderful yearly event.

Volunteers in Mission (VIM):

This is program, run by the United Methodist Church, works to build relationships with all of God’s children. Volunteer teams are sent throughout our State, our Nation and the world to assist in a host of projects ranging from repairing homes, building churches and schools to feeding and or providing medical supplies to those in need. Adults and late teens with adult supervision may participate providing they have completed the required training programs.

Zimbabwe Orphan Endeavor:

Started by Rev. Greg Jenks, ZOE provides assistance to AIDs orphans in Zimbabwe. Volunteers can provide monetary support and can also sign up to travel to Zimbabwe to provide love, fellowship and other assistance as needed. Travel is generally limited to adults or late teens with adult supervision.
