Haiti Emergency: How to Respond

Three Main Ways: Pray, Give, Pack – Food Kits, Health Kits

PRAY: A Prayer for the People of Haiti – by Taylor Burton-Edwards

The seas roar, the earth shakes, buildings crumble, roofs topple and walls turn to dust.  Have mercy on the people of Haiti, O God.  Nations watch, alarms sound, traffic halts, utilities stop, and news is hard to verify.  Give us compassion to weep with those who weep, O God.  People die, families mourn, mountains split, infrastructure and superstructure alike are gone.  Make us swift to help and persistent to rebuild, not just things and structures, but lives, O God: Through Christ, the solid Rock.  Amen.

GIVE: UMCOR – United Methodist Committee on Relief

United Methodist have had a long standing relationship with Haiti through the Methodist Church of Haiti.  The strong ties between the Methodist Church of Haiti and The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) helped in facilitating the opening of the UMCOR Haiti field office in 2005.  100 percent of gifts made will go to support relief and development efforts due to emergencies in Haiti.  Already United Methodists from around the world have given over 1 million dollars!

2 ways to give – Either make an offering directly to St. Mark’s UMC with Haiti emergency in the memo line.  Or you can also go online to the UMCOR website and make a donation.  Be sure to note your connection to St. Mark’s UMC.  Click here: www.umcor.org
