Congregational Care

Christ who kneels at the feet of his friends, and calls his disciples to do likewise, also calls the community of faith into ministries of caring and healing. Saint Mark’s UMC takes seriously its commitment to caring and healing ministry in the church and offers the following ministry opportunities for you to answer the call to caring for all God’s children.

Saint Mark’s Care Connection

Be part of the building of a new and expanded ministry of congregational care at Saint Mark’s. The Saint Mark’s Care Connection is a ministry of lending a hand… bring a meal… providing a ride… to congregation members in need. This is a ministry of care that is on-going, yet the time commitment is not a burden for Care Connection servants. SMCC is in its formative stages with lots of opportunities for leadership and plenty of places to offer your gifts of compassion and care. SMCC is a ministry team that relates to the pastors and the congregation in healing and helpful ways.

Evangels

John Wesley, founder of Methodism, supported a practice of constant communion. The Evangels take Communion to home bound and shut-in congregational members on a regular basis. Teams of 2 persons are trained to offer Communion and prayer. The Evangels also are trained to anoint, lay hands, and offer prayer with folks in need of healing prayer. The Evangels would welcome your participation in this ministry of sharing the Sacrament and the offering of healing prayer.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a world-wide ministry of one-on-one care. Being an active listener as Care-giver for a Care-Receiver is a rewarding and valuable relationship for both giver and receiver. 50 hours of training are required for Stephen Ministers to be commissioned within a congregation.

Care Givers Card Ministry

On Monday mornings a steadfast group of saints of the church gather in Watts Parlor for intercessory prayer for all the names that have been lifted for prayer in the previous week. They write and send cards to those for whom they have prayed. You are invited to become a Care Giver on any Monday you can come!
