Good news! We have recently updated our architects to Skinner Lamm & Highsmith. We are excited for the direction we are headed in! Updated plans will be available soon, check back for details!

Over 150 people attended the listening posts and presentations. We were very pleased with the attendance and appreciate everyone’s participation.

During the presentations, participants reviewed part of our vision statement (A dream to update the church’s facilities to be more inviting, accessible and accommodating for our congregation, the community and emerging ministry needs.) and our renovation priorities (Accessibility, Structural Repair of Roof, Energy Efficiency, Aesthetics, and Improvements to traffic flow and / or new entrance).  Each of the listening posts discussions was led by a member of the Renovation Team or our architect. Discussion included the need to completely replace the roof over the sanctuary, the plans for the addition of an elevator to our facility, the renovation of the sanctuary, Anderson Hall and bathrooms, and the possible addition of a new entry/annex area. The response was overwhelmingly positive! The Renovation Team is now moving forward with greater clarity and the wisdom of those participating. Each of the suggestions, concerns and ideas expressed during these listening posts will be reviewed by the Renovation Team.

If you were unable to attend, the plans are in the office for your review and comments. We continue to welcome your suggestions and ideas. Please continue to pray for your church as we move into God’s preferred future.

Renovations Team Commissioning 7/12/09

Renovation Team Commissioning 7/12/09

The St. Mark’s Renovation Team was commissioned Sunday, July 12th. Our Renovation Campaign Directors (Tommy Jenkins and Dora Beal) and the Facilities Renovation Team (John Schrader, Mike Bauldree, Anthony Wiencek, Jack Carpenter, Pete Almasy, Ken Long, Bonnie Brock, Pete Myers, Lib Campbell, Julie Gibson, & Denise Duncan) promised to keep before them the mission and ministry of St. Mark’s UMC, devote themselves to the development of a God-honoring renovation of the SMUMC facility, and to strive to be a good source of information for the congregation of SMUMC.  The congregation joined the team by covenanting to assist and encourage the team and directors in the responsibilities to which they have been called, giving the team their cooperation, counsel, and prayers.  Each team member received a hard hat with the St. Mark’s logo and a brick with pictures of some of the people who will be impacted by the planned renovation. The renovations will include replacing the sanctuary roof, adding an elevator and improvements to the sanctuary, Anderson Hall and the bathrooms. The Renovation Campaign will begin in November 2009.
