Sermon – February 12, 2012: A Rest for the Weary

How often do you really allow yourself to rest? I don’t mean just sleep, but the kind of rest that gives energy and strength. Most of us do a poor job in allowing ourselves to rest. Sundays that used to be rest days are often just as busy as the rest of the week. And yet, when we look at the Bible, beginning with the very creation of the world, we see a calling to rest from our labor. When we look at Mark 6:6b-13; 30-32, we see how Jesus made time for rest in the midst of the all of the needs around him and how he calls us to follow that example and partake of that peace and freedom in our own lives. This Sunday, let’s consider how we might fully experience this beautiful gift from God, and experience A Rest for the Weary.
