Thursday, February 25 – Chip Miller

I have a dog named Cody.  He is a pretty good dog, except for when I call him in.  A lot of the time he would rather stay outside where he feels he has control of his own little world. So I have to go outside and try to chase him down.   After a time of chasing, he finally submits and allows me to put the leash on him.

Sometimes I wonder what he is thinking as I am following him around the yard waiting for him to submit. He knows that I love him.  Why is he tempted to keep running?  Does he fear the unknown or does he think he has done something wrong or is he worried that he will get a bath?

Sometimes, like Cody, we fear the unknown and we run around in our own little world not wanting to give up control. We know that God loves us and is with us, waiting for us to submit to his will. When we confess and repent, he bathes us in his grace and washes our sins away. We know that God loves us. Through Jesus Christ let us put our trust in God and come when he calls.

Dear Heavenly Father, we are thankful that you love us and are always with us, waiting with arms wide open to take us in. Forgive us when we run around in our own little world, thinking we are in control. Let us come to you with a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart. May our hearts be sensitive and receptive to your word as we truly repent. We know that you are in control and we seek your will in our lives. Through your word and in our meditations we listen for your call. Dear Lord, give us the courage to answer “yes” as did all the saints before us. During this season of Lent, dear Lord, teach us sacrificial giving of our time, talents and our service.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
