Create in me a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
I heard this verse many years ago as I was contemplating giving my life to Jesus Christ as a Born Again Christian. At that time I did not believe that God’s mercy, forgiveness and love would clear away all past transgressions and give us pure hearts bathed in the Holy Spirit. I soon learned that yes, we can be cleansed from our sins.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me, a willing spirit to sustain me. Psalm 51:12.
No longer do we have to carry the burden of guilt and sorrow for our past sins. What a weight lifted from my shoulders when I realized that God’s only son, Jesus Christ, would do that for me! Anyone can experience God’s merciful cleansing and a new spirit filled life. All we have to do is ask.
Heavenly father, I pray that you never let me forget that your mercy, love, and compassion are there for me regardless of my iniquities. I pray your Holy Spirit continues to dwell within me, and guides me down the path of servitude.
