In a culture that says: “get a grip”, “suck it up”, “big girls don’t cry”, “put on a happy face”, “never let them see you cry”, how do we process our grief and pain? As we consider the problem of suffering through the journey of Job, we will consider the question: Have we lost our lament? Job laments his painful situation with loud complaint and a mouth full of argument. Are contemporary Christians inculturated to internalize pain and suffering and hush our whining?
