The text Matthew 22:34-40 includes what we call the great commandments: to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself. Certainly, many of us know these commandments by heart; however, are we living into them? Are we doing what they command us to do? The key to our being able to love God with all we are and to love our neighbor as ourselves is to understand the type of “love” described in this text. What do we know about this type of love? What does it look like; how does it feel?
