Sermon – July 19, 2009: What will You do with the REST of Your Life?

The truth is we are working – however you define that – more than ever. Our work – occupation, household responsibilities, church commitments, community service – seems to be taking up more time not less. Many end the day by simply collapsing into bed only to wake up the next morning and start all over again. Surely this isn’t what God intended. In our text the disciples report back from the mission field. Jesus senses their exhaustion and he invites them to come away and rest. The invitation is not just to get some good ol’ R and R, but to be re-created in order that they might be sent back out in mission and ministry. Hear the gracious invitation to rest awhile, and then ask the question, “What will you do with the REST of your life?” Mark 6:30-34, 53-56
