Ace of Cakes
Have you ever seen the show Ace of Cakes? After Duff Goldman went to culinary school he decided to start a bakery in Baltimore, Maryland. He hired his friends who did not have any baking skills but wonderful artistic skills to help him run his bakery. They are the most creative bunch of people I have ever seen. They can take a drawing or a picture and recreate it as a cake. It truly is amazing and makes for interesting television.
I like to watch the show because I like Duff. Duff knows how to truly live life to the fullest and does some amazing things along the way. He always has to do “research” for cakes. For example on the most recent episode, Duff had to go to Alaska for “research” so that he could make an Alaskan cake for the state’s anniversary. Another time he had to ride in a Blackhawk helicopter so he could properly design a cake. Now we know he gets to do all of that for the television show, but I think that Duff would do that kind of stuff whether or not he was on television. Duff is doing what he loves and he works with a great group of friends that have been with him for a long time.
Can you imagine:
Being able to work with your friends?
Or being able to work doing something you love to do?
Or being able to have lots of different experiences and meet new people that will greatly impact your life?
Or being able to live life to its fullest while sharing those experiences with others that are impacted greatly by the experiences you share?
You are able to do those things when you are an active member of a church community. You are able to give your time and talents to others that are in need. You get to have life long experiences that will touch your heart. There are so many opportunities out there, from working with youth to the nursery, serving communion to helping with the renovation campaign, being an usher to helping with vacation bible school.
We might not be able to design cakes or ride in a Blackhawk helicopter, but we can form life long friendships, work with our friends, worship and fellowship together, and impact those around us in so many ways. Join me on our ‘new television show’, Aces of St. Mark’s, and lets do “research” together.
