Sermon – April 12, 2009: No End To It

Have you ever been watching a movie, viewing a television show, or reading a book when suddenly and without warning it just ended? It is a jarring experience. We like closure. We like to know how things end. We were taught two lessons early on in grammar school. First, a good story always has a beginning, middle, and end. Second, one should never end a sentence with a preposition. Well, guess what? Our Gospel writer for Easter Sunday apparently forgot both rules! What happened? Was Mark snatched from his desk? Was the end of the manuscript lost? Or did he do it intentionally in order to make a point? Maybe the point is that the story is not over. Perhaps the point is that there is no end to resurrection, forgiveness, and our calling to go and tell the Good News.  Mark 16:1-8.
